Solar Powered Shades are available for most VELUX skylights and roof windows.

VELUX announced that they will only be installing the double-pleated room-darkening shade in White at the factory. All other shades will become special order which means they will cost more and may take several weeks to deliver. They will then require installation, which may add more to the cost.

Venetian blinds will be available as a manual option for roof windows only.

Homeowners that pair a VELUX skylight with a factory installed solar-powered shade may be eligible for a 30% Federal Tax Credit. This credit was part of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and applies to the cost of the skylight, the solar shade and the labor and materials required to install them. This can result in a benefit of $730 or more.

We often find that a fixed skylight with a solar powered shade actually costs less (after the tax credit) than a skylight without the shade. Please check with your tax advisor to determine your eligibility.

Special Order Roller Shades are also available in stock WHITE and BEIGE as well as many special order colors. They can be ordered for both light-filtering and room darkening applications and are available in manual and solar models. All solar powered shades are eligible for the 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit.

CONTROLS

The new line of VELUX hand-held remotes come pre-programed to each skylight or shade…one for each shade and one for each venting skylight. If a venting skylight is ordered with a shade VELUX will include a gateway which allows the shade and skylight to be operated by a smart phone in addition to the hand- held remote.

Manually operated shades or Venetian blinds will need a “7 hook” to control their operation.

FLASHING SYSTEMS

The backbone of VELUX skylights are the flashing kits that ensure a weatherproof installation. All VELUX flashing kits come with pre-measured VELUX underlayment. Please note that the VELUX No-Leak Warranty requires the purchase and correct installation of the recommended flashing. VELUX recommends new flashings be installed whenever a new roof is being installed.

• EDL Flashing kits are required for all deck-mounted units.
• ECL Flashing kits are made for curb-mounted skylights.

GLAZING OPTIONS

We recommend and install only the laminated NEAT Glass — Clean, Quiet & Safe

VELUX has several glazing options that increase energy efficiency or address special situations. In the Midwest we alway suggest the Laminated Glazing which adds a third pane of glass with a clear membrane sandwiched between two panes of specially heat-treated glass. This glazing meets building code for all overhead applications and increases protection from the UV light wave which damages furniture, wood and fabric.

NEAT Glass is offered only with the Laminated Glazing option.

It helps keep your skylight clean, quiet, and safe. Special coatings cause water to sheet and organic matter to decompose rapidly; the result is a skylight that stays clean and washes itself every time it rains. And the laminated glass is 25% quieter than regular glass and 50% quieter than plastic.

Insect screens allow the best of the outdoors in, while keeping insects out. All venting skylights come with insect screens however with Roof Windows, screens are an option. Screen shown is mounted below a VELUX Roof Window.
